Control4 certified on 8/25/2017 for software released version: 2.9.1
Rotel RKB-D850 / RKB-D8100 DriverWorks 2-Way Serial Driver.
Driver written by the B&W Group.
SERIAL PROTOCOL:
3 wire RS-232C protocol
115200 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bits, no parity, hardware flow control
9 pin female D type connector (pin 2 is transmit,pin 3 is receive,pin 5 is signal ground)
Use a straight-thru cable to connect to the controller.
In order for RS232 volume control to work the amplifier must be running at minimum V1.31 software. It is recommended to update to the latest available software to ensure all features are available. It is recommended to update to update to V2.45 however as this release enabled a feature to select between the analog and digital input on each channel thus allowing 2 inputs per channel and the driver has been written with this feature in mind. You can confirm the version software by viewing the "Current Product Software Version" property of this driver.
VOLUME CONTROL
------------------------
Each channel supports fully independent volume and mute controls via RS232. In order for volume control to be active, all 4 of the front panel volume trim pots must be turned down completely. If any of the trim pots are moved out of the "Off" position the RS232 volume commands will not have any effect and the analog trim pots will be used to control level settings.
LINKED INPUTS
------------------------
Channels B-D can be linked either to the same source on Channel A, or on V1R or V02 versions to the previous channel, as explained in the next paragraph.
If you use the linked inputs, you must physically toggle the switch on each output you want connected to channel A input. Once this is done you must also set the property in the driver. There is one property per channel called "Channel X Input" where X represents the channel name. For example, if you want Channel B to link to Channel A input and all other channels to use their respective input, you would physically flip the toggle switch on zone two from "STEREO" to "LINK," and you would set the property "Channel B Input" to "Link Mode." The remaining properties would be "One to One" meaning the input for each channel would be its output.
Newer RKB models (Labeled V1R or V02 on rear panel) allow input linking to channels other than Channel A only. Now each channel when set to LINK will link to the next upstream channel, so channel B will link to Channel A, Channel C will link to Channel B and Channel D links to Channel C. This would allow further combinations such as Channels A + B linked to one source while Channels C + D linked to another, or Channels A, B & C on one source with Channel D as an independent source, etc.
* NOTE: If you change the driver property from "Local Input" to "Link Mode" or vice versa, you MUST change the binding affected, then reset it. Then refresh navigators for the proper sources to show up in the proper rooms. For example, if you set Input B to "Link Mode" then you must unbind and rebind (or make the binding in the first place. If you change Input B to "Local Input" then you must go bind, or rebind, Input B to the source device.
OUTPUT CONFIGURATIONS
------------------------
This amplifier can be used as 4 stereo pairs, 8 mono channels or any combination of the two settings. It is important to make sure the correct output bindings and driver properties are set.
If you are using the amplifier in Stereo mode (or 2 mono speakers in the same room) the Audio Output property can be left as "Stereo" and connect your bindings to the appropriate SPEAKER X LEFT/STEREO output connection.
If the amplifier is to be used as separate Mono channels with one speaker per room, connect both the Left and Right output binding connections as needed, and also update the Audio Output property to "Mono" for the channel so the system knows to control volume independently for each channel.
SET BALANCE CONTROL RANGES
---------------------------
01-49 - Shift balance left, with 01 being max left and 49 being closest to centered.
50 - Centered (no balance adjustment).
51-100 - Shift balance right, with 51 being closest to center and 100 being max right.
PROGRAMMING NOTE
---------------------------
Given the unique control aspects of this unit it is recommended that when channels are linked together to use Media Scenes for proper control. Since each output requires room endpoints to be set up, using Media Scenes is the best option to provide desired control and functionality.
